  1. Well just another thing that has been bugging me in the last few weeks.

We know that mono audio can be converted to either stereo, surround & 5.1 for a number of reasons. Mainly that I havew cd's that I know to originally be in mono. I also have videos in surround & dvd's in 5.1 that I know to oroginally be recorded in mono soundtrack.

So I'm wandering if there is any kind of software out there that would allow us, the general public to create a similar effect with our pc's & a required piece of software?.

  2. u mean u want to add uour own "effect". State each channel on your own. Pretty tricky but nice if it would be possible.

  3. But as I said I know it from videos & DVD's I have that it is possable.

And I cannot be the only one who thinks there is no way on earth it can only be done by multi million £, $, € or what ever your currency is hardware only.

I'd bet there has to be a way it can be done via software on a home pc!.

Why mess with stuff like that?
Just buy a reciever with decent matrix decoder (Dolby pro logic 2, DTS Neo 6; SRS Circle Surround 2).
These matrix decoders will create good enough surround sound from mono source, espetially CS2, but it´s only featured on Kenwood recievers

  7. It can be done but this is usually done by professionals with VERY hi-end, multi thousand dollar sound gear. You would have to take the mono channel and using some expensive software/hardware, seperate the frequencies to make a left and right and then add some effects to fill the sound back out to full range. Then for the surround tracks you would have to manually pull sounds out of that stereo mix and add them to the rear left or rear right channel while deleting it from the stereo front track. It is possible, it's called Remastering. But it would cost you alot of cash for the hardware and software to accomplish it.
