  1. If I convert a VCD "dat" file into "mpeg" format using TMPEGEnc, it takes 1 hour, but only 5 minutes if done through VCDGear. Is there something extra TMPEGEnc doing or for that matter VCDGear not doing? Or I am making some mistake?

  2. If you do it in TMPGEnc you are actually reencoding the film, big no-no reencoding=quality loss. VCD gear just rewrites the file header and changes the file from dat to mpg. This is the method you should be using.

You don't need to convert it to anything, it is already an mpeg 1, most authoring programs will accept the file "As is" it can be loaded into vdub with (*.*) or used with TMPGEnc (*.*) if your having problems loading into any programs just rename it .mpg

If you want to strip the vcd headers, use TMPGEnc Split&Merge and just save out another copy as "MPEG 1 Video CD"
