  1. I have a panasonic A160 player. I bought this back in 1998 but have had never had a single problem. I tried playing a VCD which I had made but it came up cannot play. That caused me no problem as I have one which can play it in the front room. The only problem is that now whatever disk I put in the player be it region 1 or 2 (the player is chipped) it says that it cannot play it, I have looked through the menus and everything is normal and it is not the laser as it plays audio cd's.

Thanks for taking the time to read and I hope that you can help.

You can't compare Audio CD's with DVD's, they're totally different specs.
Maybe your laser is slightly out of focus or worn out?

DVD/R discs need a 650nm laser, while for CD's it has to be 780nm.

I think it could be the laser, since it needs to be more accurate to read DVD's instead of a CD.
