    If I were to buy the MPEG-2 Quicktime Playback Component for OSX, will I be able to edit the video in any way? Could I cut and paste the video it different segments?

    No, but you can export it to a different format for editing.

  3. has the mpeg2 bug been fixed in 6.1? the 2 gig file limit one or whatever?

    No it has not. QT is pretty much useless for mpeg2 playback and encoding, unless you're working with short bits of video.
