Things are looking up on the Mac with this solution and the one which is about to arrive from Kai et al...In any case you must try http://diva.3ivx.com/ . It is the fastest mpeg2 to QT (so it will encode in anything QT will) convertor I have seen. And it makes cropping a joy. Excellent app.
