    Hi there,

I have a PAL Mpeg 2 file that some one converted from NSTC Mpeg 2 file a year ago. When they converted it back then, they made the mpeg 2 file play 3 mins shorter then it should be. The mpeg 2 movie seems to be playing 1 to 2% faster then it should be. The file plays nice the voices are in sync with the video, its just the voices are a little higher pitched. This is what I want to do, I what to be able to encode the file to play at the correct length. Right now it plays 82 mins, its suppose to play 85 mins. I have Tmpgenc plus, Xpress, DVD pro, can any of these fix this problem.

Also I forgot to added, I burned it to a DVD and the playback is the same

    Thanks
    Gun

It's 3 minutes shorter because of the 24fps to 25fps conversion(about 4%faster). You can convert back to 24fps and stretch the audio. I don't think any of those tools can adjust the audio so I would convert the video with tmpgenc plus and convert the audio using the old besweetgui with the 25fps to 24fps time stretch option. But you will lose video and audio quality so it's not really worth it...

    Hi there,

Ok I guessing that when the went from NTSC standard 29.97 or 30 FPS to the PAL 25 FPS it cut frames out. Ok what if I convert it back to NTSC 30 FPS would that work? I am also guessing that if I do that, the program I use to convert it would need to clone some frames to make up the 5 frames per sec or something like that.

    Thanks

  4. Hi-

If this is a movie then, if done right, it was just speeded up from 23.976fps to 25fps, hence the 4% speedup and the 3+ minute shorter length. No frames were lost. If you really want to get rid of the higher pitched audio you'll have to demux, run the M2V through DGPulldown set for 23.976->25 (no video reencoding necessary), slow down the audio as described by Baldrick, reauthor back to DVD, and then stick the slowed down but still PAL DVD back into the original. If this is all Greek to you then you're not ready for the job. You could also reencode the video for 23.976fps and even convert it back to NTSC, but that's not really necessary and will seriously degrade the video quality.

To be sure of what you really have on your hands, though, a small 5-10 second sample would be necessary so we could have a look.
