My friend bought a complete 'I-Friend' PC system and it's developed
a weird fault...the DVD drive no longer recognises a DVD disc but will
recognise a game cd,music cd or data cd.
In other words it seems to have reverted back to being a normal CD
drive.

The question is, is there a way to fix it or is the drive beyond repair?

The drive has not been 'tampered' with in anyway,no firmware flashing,not removed form the case it's 'factory fresh' as it were.

Would re-flashing the firmware cure it or has it got to go back for an exchange?

Any help/suggestions welcome!
