    Hi,

After usint Studio 7 and VideoStudio 4 for a while I know I need to upgrade!

I did a test drive of Premiere 6.0 and now I'm in love with it, but $599 is too much for me!

I am in need for a MPEG2 capture board too.

So I found that I can get the DV500 DVD card with Premiere 6.5 for around $499. Is this a great buy? Is the DV500 DVD a great card? Will it help me avoiding long waits during rendering? Will it capture in MPEG2?

My other option is to buy PYRO Platinum (Firewire card that includes Premiere 6.5) for around $279 and buy a PVR250 for MPEG2 Capturing for around $139.

Any opinion? Which is the way to go?

    Regards,

    Jose

The DV500 series of boards capture in DV2 format NOT in MPEG.

    HI KIng,

I noticed that! I think I will go with the PYRO and PVR250 combination si I can campture in MPEG2 directly when needed and have Premiere at a real discount.

Does the DV500 DVD really speed up the rendering in Premiere? I read that Premiere 6.5 does background rendering so I don;t see a need for that. WHat do you think?

    Regards,

    Hello Jose,

The DV500 does speed up the rendering in Premiere BUT only when you are using the Pinnacle presets - and that means DV2 source material ! This is known as Miro Instant Video, and it works by making small DV2 files of the parts that need rendering (transitions, titles and so on). When exporting to DV tape (or as an MPEG using the Adobe encoder) Premiere mixes these small files into the output with the unrendered parts being read from the original source file. This saves time and hard drive space as it is not necessary to render the whole project.

The only real way to speed up Premiere 6.5, when a complete project must be rendered and is not in the Pinnacle DV2 format, is to use it on a dual processor system.

    Regards, Dick.

    If you go here:

    http://www.dv-gear.com/digital-video-capture-card/pyro-platinum-dv.htm

You can get Premiere 6.5 for $225. Along with Ulead DVD Workshop SE and they will even give you a capture card.

This was posted here some time ago, I saw it and ordered it. No problems. Premiere is the full version minus the DVDit part. DVD Workshop is scalled down from the full version, but for me it is working fine.

    I'm happy!
