For a while, I had a Toshiba SD-K700 DVD player. It could handle MPEG-1 sound on my DVD-R discs and play it through my TV speakers. But apparently my digital surround receiver couldn't recognize the MPEG-1 sound through its digital inputs. If I route the audio through the player's ANALOG outputs and through the receiver's ANALOG inputs, the receiver then recognized the audio signal. I just figured the receiver was too old to recognize MPEG-1 audio.
Well, the player died and I exchanged it for a new Toshiba SD-K710 player. Same story.
Here's the wrinkle. I just bought a Sony DVP-NS999ES DVD player and guess what.... those same discs with MPEG-1 audio play through that same receiver's digital inputs fine and dandy!
Can someone tell me why my receiver can recognize MPEG audio from my DVD-R discs from the Sony player through its digital input, but can NOT recognize the MPEG audio from those exact same discs played through TWO Toshiba players through that exact same digital input?
Thanks....
