Hi,
Where I work need to make some videos and we want those videos to be as small as possible, so DivX is quite what I need. Though, we are thousands of people working here, so I don't want to have to install the Codecs on every single machine that needs the Codecs to read DivX files. What I would like to do is to "include" the codecs in the DivX File. A kind of package that if you don't have what is required to read the DivX, the package installs it automaticly without asking you anything and then plays the DivX video. If someone have any ideas of doing what I need to do, please tell me.
Thank you.

Make a zip file and include the movie with the divx codec with it. Or you can encode into WMV and everyone will be able to play that without installing new software (if they are running Windows).

I don't know how useful Faceman's first suggestion is as it still leaves it up to the user to install the codec presumably what he means is for you to create a self extracting ZIP archive that contains the DivX installer and use the "run after extraction" option to execute the installer with no user interaction.
The suggestion of using Windows Media Video instead is a good idea as the performance of WMV is as good as DivX if not better. -
oddbod77 is right ... for distrubution like what you suggest divx is NOT the way to go .. use wmv or quicktime , both of which are totally compatable with most systems and look just about as good (or better) ..
most system admin's would not even allow in most companies users to install codecs into thier systems (specially the dim view most sys admin's have of DiVX) and in many companies would be blocked , in some companies it is grounds for being fired (true ) -
Hello,
The WMP file encoding would, indeed, be easier for everyone in here! I just need to install Windows Media Encoder and encode the AVI files into WMP format, right?
Thanx -
So I did... But when I want to read the WMV file, WMP6.4 tells me that it couldn't download the codec to read the file. Is it me or what? If I have to install WMP8 or 9 on every machine, I am not getting farter than the DivX solution...
We are running Windows 2000 SP2. -
Even if you decide to use WMV, you are going to have requirements (media player and codecs). I'd go quicktime personally, but again, you'll need the quicktime player to be installed...

You must avoid the WM8 profiles and stick to the "Video for broadband" ones, the most appropriate one is up to you as it is dependant on your source material.
@BJ_M: I swear I'm not looking over your shoulder -

download media encoder version 7 here

you can also output various flavours of wmv files with other apps ...
also windows has a version 8 (command line encoder) you can get here http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/en/Download/default.asp and a GUI for it somewhere also ..
