i am very grateful for everyones time and effort on here to post guides to help noobs get what they want done.

its just a shame that none of them f***ing work ...

i have tried just about every guide on the net for ripping a movie JUST the movie and fitting it on a DVD-R if its under 4.7G

i mean, how hard can it be ??

copy an entire movie where the whole lot, movie, menus and discs can fit on one disc is easy, just read, then write an ISO file with DVDDecrypter

but no-one has yet to write an absolutley idiot proof guide to ripping, then burning just a movie. Some people say its the "idiots guide", some people post things like "then import your chapter list" .... i know now what it is, but at first i was like ... WTF is a chapter list ... for example ...

    Blackout's guide wrote:

This option will cause the main movie to once you put your DVDr into the player. Ie you have to lose the menu/extras, but it will allow your movie to fit on your 4.3GB DVD-R with identical quality to the original. It also keeps your 5.1 Sound, and some selected subtitle streams of your choice. You need at least 9-15 Gig of space on your hard drive.

Software required: DVD Decryptor (from www.doom9.net)
SubRip 1.033 or higher (from www.doom9.net)
    DVDMaestro (Spruce Technologies – Gone)
Nero 5.5.9.0 or higher (Working Demos available)

    a) Load DVD Decryptor, it will select your main movie automatically in IFO mode. Click on the "Stream Processing" tab and then place a tick in the "Enable stream processing" box. This box will then allow you to select from the list of streams above it. Select "DEMUX" and then select at least 3 things from the list...your Video File (at the top)...your AC3 file (preferably the 6ch one to keep surround sound) and your Subtitle stream.
    b) Extract to your hard drive. This will create an m2v file for your video, an AC3 file for your audio, and a small .vob ad .ifo file that will have your subtitle stream in it only. This will also create chapter list files for you for Maestro in the same folder.
    c) Load Up SubRip, load in your .Vob File and IFO file. Select your Subtitle language you want to add to your dvd and select “Save as BMP”. Subtitles are BMP pic files, save the BMPs to your hard drive and then save the DVD Maestro-specific files to the same place…youll have to select Maestro as the output format. These will tell Maestro where the BMP pics need to play in your movie.
    d) Load up DVD Maestro. Import the m2v video file, import the AC3 file (create sync track once imported), import the Chapters file, import the Subtitles list, and Create your VIDEO_TS folder. e) Burn your VIDEO_TS folder with Nero If Nero complains about a non-compliant file, its just an extra project save file that Maestro added to your VIDEO_TS folder, you don’t need this file so just continue.
    Done!

    a. DVD Decrypter dosnt automatically select all NEEDED files, it does however select what it thinks are the main movie files.there is no stream processing tab, but there is a MODE>IFO>sSTREAM PROCESSING TAB. Next, "select Demux then at least three things from the list" . I did. this demux'd the first thing i selected ONLY.

    b. If you havnt done things correctly ( and you probably havnt, as the above isnt explained very well ) then you dont have the chapterlist for DVD MAESTRO

    d. sync ? sync what ? what chapter file ? oh you mean the one not in MAESTRO format ?? the rest of it just goes off at a tangent. Its like showing your computer illiterate aunty how to change the desktop wallpaper, by clikcing the mouse at 30times a second, they think it wonderfull to you its second nature. Dont get me wrong, i am not having a go at Blackout ... its jus that people post these guides sometimes just to show off thier technical knowledge, without even thinking if anyone can follow them

someone please make sense out of this, and put alot of us out of our misery ...

I truly feel for you man! I have just been through the same thing over the last month reading virtually every guide out there only to find out that none of them really met all my needs. So in the true spirit of this DVD ripping adventure I did what everyone else has done and wrote another idiots guide to ripping that meets my needs. Luckily it sounds like it meets yours as well so if you like I will happily email it to you. It is designed to rip any DVD and burn it to a single blank DVD. It works flawlessly for me every time. It sounds like you have tried them all so far. Do you fancy one more?

  6. Here's the ultimate "idiots" guide. Even I could follow it. Gives you the movie with DD or DTS soundtrack and the ability to forward through the chapters. It's great...

The only changes I would make would be to download IMGTOOL(free) to make an image then burn with DVD Decrypter(free) That way you don't need Nero.

  7. Let me assure everyone that it is truly difficult to make a guide that is completely "idiot-proof". If you have a problem with a guide, try to read around the problem. Often, things are more simple than they seem though it may seem foreign to you as a beginner. If you continue having problems, then this is why this site and forum exists!

    Best of luck.

  8. Guides are here to help you not to give you "an absolutley idiot proof guide". It's up to you to get information from it and use it to your specific situatio. I used 5 guide and only one step from each when I was trying to create DVD from DivX files, and I was happy that there were so many of them. So don't complain and start "f***ing" use your brain.

Here is one that works like charm... Try it... It worked for me couple of times already:

Hi there! Im a newbie as well.
But Ive been reading the threads for 2 weeks!
Also the tutorials. I think the tutorials are grea tand
ive burned many DVD's using them. Many thanks
to the people who produce these tutorials.
I must add also , it helps to read a bit about
    the software you are using!
I can copy dvd 5 no problems, using dvd decrypter.
DVD 9 using ifoedit to strip the menus and subtitles etc.
Now im trying to remux with dvdx but not much joy!
I used to use dvd decryper, rempeg, ifoedit but quality not much good.
Im looking for a good tutorial on demuxing if im right.[making movie smaller]
Ive got a demo of CCE but its all the other software that goes with it.
Also the tutorial seems a bit difficult.More for the advanced person.
Now dvd2dvdr seems a bit hard to understand as well.
Im still plugging away trying to find the best scenario!
Once again big thanks to this forum :P

  11. If it is a DVD5 disc - under 4.7GB total.

Just go into smart ripper, click "files" select everything and rip.
Load nero, copy all these files into the nero VIDEO_TS directory
    and burn.

If it is a DVD9 disc and the video + audio is under 4.7GB:

Rip the movie/audio in smart ripper or dvd-decrypter and demux it.
Load Chapter extractor - set to export to maestro, load the IFO and save.
Load the m2v and audio into maestro and import the chapter files
Compile and burn the VIDEO_TS in nero.

If the DVD9 disc files are over 4.7 GB:
    Rip the movie/audio
re-encode in tmpgenc or cce (just the video)
and follow the steps above for maestro.

    This works perfectly for me.

  12. I'm a newbie poster to this forum but have been trolling for months. The info gathered has been invaluable. Many thanks to all in the know especially Chatwalker and Trilight.
My only complaint is that I have yet to find any complete tutorial or manual for Ifoedit. For being such a strong and necessary program for this field, I (as a newb) am having much difficulty in understanding the full usefullness of all the power in this program. I do understand the basics but do not grasp most of the info displayed in the program. If there is a full tutorial or manual on ALL aspects and features of this progy please post a link or thread.

  13. For everyone that sugests maestro ....

This would be great if the program was available .... I have searched every where for it and could not find it... so I am having to look at alternitives... maybe I will start a new thread called alternitives to Maestro...

As you can see this has been the most frustrating part for me.

    ifoedit doesn't handle 3:2 properly.

Pauls method is sound, in fact I used to use it myself until I started noticing that the final product with REMPEG was not always great. So if you are going to go to the bother of re-encoding a DVD why not do yourself a favor and do it the best way possible i.e. use CCE. Once you try it you will never go back as it is by far the best in terms of performance and quality. The only downside is you then need Maestro or other authoring tool as IfoEdit has some know problems.

Believe me, CCE and Maestro is a powerful combination.

DCSOS's GUIDE first PUBLICATION here: feedback accepted

USE SMARTRIPPER to extract the movie to your hard drive.

Use VIDOMI by loading all the VOB's representing the MOVIE in QUESTION to transcode to ANY HIGH QUALITY INTERFORMAT you like.(DIVX and MICROSOFT MPEG-4 V1 are good choices)
That is, we're just using VIDOMI to handle changing the AC3 audio stream to MPEG AUDIO.
WE'RE GOING to get a new file from VIDOMI, it will be DIVX with PCM 48,000 or 44,000 so we can drop our resultant INTERMEDIATE MOVIE
into VEGAS 3.0 or ADOBE PREMIERE 6.5 and just pull down to use the MPEG-1 TEMPLATE for VCD..
    EASY HUH?

all you gotta do is keep the BIT RATE HIGH enough in the INTERMEDIATE MOVIE so you dont see artifacting when you return to MPEG.
I suggest 3.5 million bits a second for VCD
    or
6.5 Million Bits if you re-render a dual layer DVD to a single layer lower bitrate version

also for audio use 44,000 in VIDOMI for VCD or 48,000 for DVD recreation

    HOPE THIS HELPS

You don't need TMPG, IFO edit, FLASK or Vobrator in this way.
