Aspect ratio 16:9 and riped movie is 4:3

Original movie (capt coreli) is 16:9. after riping i get 4:3 and same after encoding is 4:3 even i select 16:9.
Small thing is that when i start to watch movie, menus are 4:3 and one secound (first secound) of movie is 4:3 and then movie switch to 16:9.

How to solve this problem

First you should tell us what prog you used. But I m sure they all have an option to chose between 16:9 or 4:3.
I use DVD2DVD-R and sometime for some reason it doesn't recognize the aspect ratio right so BEFORE rip I just read the DVD box and if the box says 16:9 I check and set it on 16:9 if needed.

and if movie isnt big for encoding i cant make change from 4:3 to 16:9 ?

Use IfoEdit, Open Ifo and then double click on Movie attributes and change it to 16:9 and Automatic Letterbox and then click Ok, And then Save, Done!!!, Wish someone could answer my problem about Audio Compression though, 31 views and no reply's at all, Look's like i've come across something this board as never solved before, I should go in the Guiness Book Of Records' , lol

I am having sort of the same problem. I ripped a movie that is 16:9 and the .vob files play fine and are 16:9 then i use DVD2AVI to split the audio from the video. When i use DVD2AVI 1.76 tmpgenc can't open the d2v file, but when i use DVD2AVI 1.77 it opens the vob files as 4:3 and then from then on its 4:3. Can someone help? Another questio what should the resolution be for 16:9? and what should it be for 4:3?

I think I have the same problem. I'm using DVD Decrypter, DVD2AVI, TmpgEnc, ChapterXtractor, DVDMaestro, and Nero to burn. I've tried 2 movies so far "BlookWork and Gone in 60 Seconds" Both Movies are in wide screen format Looks great and plays on both my setops, but everything is thin. I beleive I followed the tutorial correctly. I'm new to this and seem to be missing something. After reading this post I used infoedit to change the files, but still come up with the same thing.

I try to use DVD2AVI and tmpEnc which works 100% fine the key is

1- after you make your settings in tmpEnc start encoding and wath the display in your monitor, as it is a long process wait a few minutes and make sure you get 16:9 size video in the display window.
2- In your settings try to change the video size 4:3 for the source and 16:9 in the output, even 2.11 :1 for some movies. Playing with these settings get you the right aspect ratio.

after you are satisfied from step 1 then continue encoding.

That worked, I left the source set to 16:9 and changed the output to 4:3 and it came out perfect. Like you said I started and kept my eye on the encode and the ratio was correct after I made the changes. Thanks very much for your help.

I can't tell you how long it took for me to figure that one out myself. For me this has been the most confusing part of learning to use TMPGEnc. Wish I'd read this sooner.
