  1. I have quite a few mov files I want to convert to vcd or svcd. TMPGENC doesn't work, period. Therefore, I was trying the RADVideo Tools. It worked great, but there was no audio. So, I'm trying to use Total Recorder 4.0 to get the audio. Is there any other way to do that? Are there any special settings needed in Total Recorder? If I play the mov file, and then press the record button..nothing gets recorded. Any help would be appreciated!

I use TMPGEnc to do all my MOV conversions - it works fine.

Are you sure you installed the 'QTReader.vfp' filter - this allows it to read MOV files. (Look in the 'Option -> Environmental setting -> VFAPI plug-in' and make sure you have the 'Quick Time Movie Reader' ticked)

If you don't see it in the list then download the vfp file from the Tools section of this site.

Try using the 'mov2AVI' tool - you can download it from the tools section of this site.

You may have better luck converting video and audio with this, it also allows you to export the audio as a wav file.

  5. Both these tricks work and I alternate using them.

But note - some files, like the notorious Star Wars clips, refuse to be converted by many methods due to codec tweaks etc. Just because TMPGenc or mov2avi don't work on one clip does not mean they won't work at all - you just have a tough source file.

  6. I think you guys are missing the fact that Kitty is dealing with a MOV which has protected sound. Its an encryption of sorts.

You can always convert the video of an MOV, but some, like say all the Pixar Shorts are "protected" so that you can't digitally convert the audio.

This is no fault of TMPGEnc or other programs.

I'd love to find a "fix" to get around this, I've tried using Total Recorder myself, but you always get the sound a little too ahead or behind and then its no good.

  7. a great program for converting protected quicktime .mov files is sound forge by sonic foundry. it can convert the video with the audio to avi or whatever with no problems.

  8. tmpg doesn't work for me either. what i did was convert my mov files to avi with rad video tools and then convert them to mpeg2 with tmpg.
