I was hoping someone could comment on this problem.

I have been producing SVCD disks for playback on my APEX AD-1500. These are animated features I reproduce for my kids. Generally there is about 40 mins of video. I use TMPEnc to produce an NTSC MPEG (SVCD) file, This usually results in a file size of just under 800 meg (795 is typical). I can use VCD EAsy to burn this to a CDRW with no problem using the overburn option.

The problem occurs on playback. All is well for the first 35 minutes or so of playback. Then with a few minutes left, the disk will start to freeze up, sometimes will unfreeze after 30 secs or longer only to freeze up again shortly.
I have tried using a lower bit rate to decrease the file size and this seems to help. From my experimentation 650 meg seems to be about the maximum file size that works well.

I am wondering if this is a DVD player isue or soemthing to do with the maximum file size on a SVCD.

Any comments appreciated.
