  1. Hi been putting vcd onto dvd using Mydvd but pain in the butt it recompresses the audio to pcm and uses buckets loads on the dvd-r limiting me to 2 poss 3 vcd`s to 1 dvd-r.

Just aquired neo dvd and was just wondering whether anyone knows whether this software also recompresses or not????.

Also what would be the best software to convert vcd - dvd (200mins+)
And where to aquire - pm
    Thanks in advance.

  2. Sheepish, most DVD authoring/burning software re-encodes to ensure DVD Video standards compliance. You could try DVD Movie Factory 1.0 (with latest patch). It appears to burn whatever you throw at it, but I'm not 100% sure. I also have NeoDVD but it also re-encodes and offers you a lower quality option if you want to fit everything.

Well, if at best blank DVDs give you 120mins of video (more and more people have found they can't put that much), then I don't think you can expect 200mins+.

  3. Cheers for the response.

Yep think that would work, you see the vcd quality is low bitrate anyway so in theory(vcd movie = 700Mb approx.) I should be able to get approx 5-6 discs on 1 dvd-r without any re-encode.

With Mydvd it seems 650Mb vid/audio is then demuxed and then the audio is transcoded and increases the file size to approx 1.2Gb nearly double.

I shall try neo to see if I can alter this tarnscoding increase,

    Much appreciated

  4. You are correct, of course. I had my mind set on MPEG-2 but forgot that VCD is MPEG-1. My question is, will each menu choice on your DVD launch an MPEG-1 clip?

  5. DVDs allow for a number of different spec video including MPEG-1 at VCD framesizes and bitrate. Thus, you can author a DVD with VCD spec video. Generally, only the audio will need to be changed (needs to be resampled to 48 kHz) and your DVD authoring proggy may or may not be able to do this for you.

Try having a look here: http://www.vcdhelp.com/vcddvdr.htm

  6. Vitualis.

If I re-encode JUST the the audio from to 44Khz to 48Khz.

    1. Can I use the ssrc.exe in tmpgenc to do this?
    2. Will Mydvd still transcode the audio and reproduce the same size file approx 650Mb or will it still increase the overall file as before to approx 1.2Gb?

    Were getting there cheers

  7. I am unfamililar with that program so I can't give you a definite answer. However, assuming that the DVD authoring proggy doesn't mindlessly transcode/re-encode everything, the filesize should be approx. the same.
