Hello.
A search on this forum did not give me the answer to this question.
I want to update to firmware 1.0f Having read the Sony instructions, I do not want to uninstall Intel Acc on my Win XP Dell, as well as the other packet writing sw, etc.
Was thinking of pulling out the drive and swapping it temporarily in an old box in the closet. Will this work? Do I need an OS on the hard drive? (Do I need a hard drive?).
Thanks.

To answer my own question . . .
Used an older Celeron 32mb ram Win 98 to run firmware upgrade. Pulled ide cables off old cdr and replaced with DRU500A - as secondary master. Unchecked DMA in control panel and had to reboot. Ran firmware upgrade software and was told to reboot. Firmware did not upgrade. This time made sure DRU500A was highlighted in dropdown box (only drive listed) and told to reboot. Firmware did not upgrade. This time highlighted drive and pressed CONFIRM which opened drive door. Firmware completed successfully after about 40 seconds. Pulled out drive, reinstalled in current XP box as secondary master and it has been fine.
