mado21,
I just got a new PS2 and it plays all formats of DVD media and it didnt have to be moded. -
actually it dont have to be modded to play burned dvd movies..it all depends on the media if you are burning from a rip..and the autoring program if you are trying to play one you authored yourself...for instance i authored a dvd with video pack 5 and it would not play right on my ps2..but i did the same one with ulead worhshop and it plays fine..and no my ps2 does not have a modchip installed..

The new PS2's can play DVD+RW and DVD+R. I have backed up movies and have played them with no problem. Right out of the box.

I agree with NYplayer. My PS2 played DVD (+-) (R/RW) only movies, not games, right out of the box. I'm burning DVDs with Nero and DVD Decryptor in ISO mode and they play fine.

I had this problem. I have a PAL PS2 (V.4 I think). I had to set the DVD as a region 2 using IfoEdit in order for them to play back properly.
Open the VIDEO_TS.IFO file for your DVD in IFOEDIT
Highlight 'VMGM_MAT' section
Doubleclick the 'VGM Category, Regional Code Mask' in the lower window
set the value to '253' for region 2 (if you are in a different region check the correct setting from an original DVD)
Save the IFO then burn your disk - you'll have a region 2 (or whatever) DVD that should be OK on any player for that region (including the PS2)
