  1. I have a HP g ghz w/ 512 mb ram.

I removed the CD-RW drive and replaced it with the DRU-500A.

The PC is recognizing the drive as the CD Drive.

I am at my wits end and about to bring it back to the store!!

    Please help!!

    Thanks in advance!!

Windows XP pre-SP1 just does that. Don't worry, nothing is wrong with your DVD-RW drive. The Pioneer 104 and 105 do it also. I install Nero or PrimoDVD and burning is painless and perfect in all modes, but Windows XP insists that the drive is a mere "CD Drive".

If you are using good burning software, it doesn't matter what your My Computer dialog box thinks the drive is. I'm sure SP2 will fix it. Sometimes there is a driver fix - for some reason, after I have run PowerDVD or TMPGenc Plus, it shows up as a DVD-R drive. Still not technically correct, but you get the idea.
