  1. I installed my dvd rom that i got for christmas, and it worked no problem, and i started backing up a dvd with dvd2svcd. I had to cancel it because i needed the computer for other stuff. I then put a new cd burner in my computer, and my dvd rom hasn't worked well since. I put a dvd in and every player freezes when i try to play the dvd, dvd2svcd won't find an ifo file and if i pick one, it just freezes. nothing works, and i need help. i have a 16x pioneer dvd rom.

  2. I think I got a better story than that one, but sorry, I don't have an answer for you. I had a Creative 16x that worked fine for a really long time(6 months or so), but then it developed an "attitude". I installed a Liteon cd burner and the dvd rom just went nuts. It absolutely refused to recognize anything but a store bought dvd. It wouldn't play cd-roms, audio cds, dvd backups, nothing. It just spit them out. To make matters worse, every time I would try to unlock a dvd to rip it, it would not only sometimes freeze whatever dvd software I used(like you said above), but the drive itself would lock up and would not eject the dvd unless I rebooted the system. Sometimes I would have to do this several times just to unlock a movie. I tried everything. I moved it to the other IDE channel, I bought a controller card and connected it that way, but neither option helped. I removed the Liteon, but that didn't fix it, either. I eventually grew tired of it and threw it out. The one I have now(can't remember the name) works flawlessly. I'm only telling you this because the situations sound very similar. It's possible you may have to just cut your losses now, replace it with a different one, and avoid the headaches.
    Sometimes, ya just gotta.....umm, what's the word........FART???

  3. wow. that's not what i wanted to hear. I am gonna try hooking it up to the next ide channel though. I just wanted to see if i could get an easier answer here first. at least i just got my dvd rom and i could still retirn it if it won't work. If anyone else knows the answer though, I'd still like to here it.
