hey guys,
i've just heard of mvcd and saw some pictures and ratings 4 the conversion. sounds good, looks even better and you'll get up to 130min. of a movie on 1 cd-r (just got me a movie in mvcd quality and it looked better than a 3 svcd version).
but i just wonder if standard dvd-players support it!? my player has just wrecked up so i cannot prove it....... my dvd-rom has no problems with it.
has anybody seen a compatibility list yet?

I have never heard of it. It sounds interesting. Can you tell me where you saw the pictures and ratings? I'd like to compare it to my EVCD template.

Here is a link. It's in Genman, the MVCD is a TEMPGE Template. I Have not tried it yet.

I looked it up, i even downloaded the TMPGEnc templates and installed them. I've finished encoding and everything, but how do I burn it? Do I go into NERO and burn it as a VCD? I'm really not sure what to do once I've finished the encoding phase for MVCD. By the way, is there an MVCD template for NTSC? Just curious.
Thanks

Hi guys,
I just downloaded the File and checked the settings... It's just another XVCD template. Meaning it is not VCD compliant. They just lowered the audio bitrate from 224Kb to 128Kb and changed the Constant Bitrate (Which is required for full VCD Compatibility) to Constant Quality. This means that the bitrate may vary from 300Kb/s to up to 2300Kb/s. So if you encode simple frames they only take up 300Kb/s which would enable you to put 130Min of movie on 1 CDR in perfect quality. This is true. BUT.... If you have some more complex frames (fast action scenes..) the bitrate could go up to as much as 2300Kb/s thus leaving only room on 1 CDR for about 40 Minutes. (This is in very good quality though !!)
Well, i'll just stick to 4 Pass VBR SVCD's.. I don't mind swapping once.....

What's the big deal. Check out KVCD Templates at www.kvcd.net, and fit up to 180 Min on 1 CDR.

You can use VirtualDub to extract the audio from your avi (DivX?) and encode your extracted WAV file with the procedures described in the guide. From there one, it's the same process, no matter if it was a DVD rip or avi encode.
