I'm using TMPGEnc to encode my (DivX) avi files to SVCD mpeg-2 file format, and VCDEasy to burn the SVCDs.
I download a lot of fansubbed Japanese animation (unlicensed, mind you). Now, when I use TMPEnc it encodes fine, and burns into svcd fine, the only problem is that the picture height is too long and the subtitles get cut off at the bottom of the picture, so I can read only half of the text. I tried setting the aspect ratio to:
- 4:3 525 line (NTSC)
- 4:3 Display
Is there anyway to fix my problem without downloading more editing apps? If there isn't one, i'm prepared to learn more about editing.
Current file information (oh yeah, I tried burning in Super Video-CD, NTSC film format in TMPEnc):
Width: 640 pixels
Height: 480 pixels
Frame Rate: 23.97 frames
Anything would help, thanks.

I don't know if this will help you or not, but what I would do is set the Source Aspect ratio to 1:1 (that's normally what 640 x 480 is), the destination aspect ratio to 4:3 525 line, and the dest side to 480 x 480, with Full Screen (keep aspect ratio) as the Video Arrange Method.
This normally works for me. It will add a little bit of black bars on the side of the video when you're done, but they're normally in the overscan area that you don't see on the TV. -
Nope, the picture, and the subtitles are still cutoff at the bottom
. Is there anything else I could do?
-
You are most likely runnign into the problem of overscanning. All TV's are overscanned, that means they cut of about 10% of the image around the edges. Any thing close to the edge on a PC monitor will not show up on a TV set. In your case, you most likly have to create a black frame around the video so you can see it all on a TV set. Virtualdub can do a resize and add black.
-
Ok, I got virtualdub, how would I resize and add black around the borders?
-
you could set the output as 16*9 instead of 4*3...just as a test...it would eliminate the cut off bottom and keep you from having to re encode.

You can also lift up the subtitles with a program called Subresync.
Subresync is a program called Vobsub.Iīm sucks at explaining so just download this if you havenīt and lift up the subtitles:
