Im converting xvid/divx to svcd and was wondering whats the best template/method to convert a 90 min movies to one cd to get the best possible quality mainly picture cause its a movie heavy on dialog so i dont need super good sound. The other question is do it have to be encoded in vcd to get it to fit on a 80min cd, or can i encode it in svcd
thanks alot for any help and Merry Christmas

90 min is not so much, especially having in mind that it is mainly dialog.
So you can use just the normal template. Another option I would recommend is kwag's templates which you can download from the "tools" section. But for 90 min and no rapid motion there will not be any noticeable difference, I think.
So basically you first use the bitrate calculator, see what must be the bitrate for 90 min to fill up a 80min CD. For the sound -- 96kbps, or even less will be ok.
Then start TMPGEnc, choose "variable 2-pass", put your bitrate value for the average. For the higest value put 2600, and for the sound -- choose mono, 96kbps, or less (whatever you already put in the calculator
If the source is good - and I bet it is - I would recommend SVCD, or even better -- CVD, which is as you probably know - 352x480(NTSC) or 352x576(PAL) pixels.
merry christmas to you too.Best wishes,
