When re-encoding with TMPGEnc, what are the best settings to make the most standard DVD (hoping to achieve maximum compatibility for stand alone players)
Settings I'm talking about are:
Encoding type (CBR, VBR, CQ, etc)
Video bitrate
Audio bitrate
Anything else that might be applicable to my efforts.
Thanks for the help.

This is what I normally use...
2 Pass VBR... in my opinion, it produces the best results. I usually set my max bitrate to 8000, the minimum to 0.... I never include the audio stream into my encoding... I usually demux it in DVD2AVI and leave it as is...
Hope this helps... If you have any other questions, please ask. -
I understand that VBR probably gives the best quality, but I'm wondering what gives the best compatibility.
Is a standard DVD encoded VBR?
as far as audio goes, "leaving it as is" isn't a good option for me because depending on the source I am using the audio is in very different formats and encoding rates. -
i have tried both. neither one had any problems. i would stick with cbr because vbr takes a lot longer well 2 pass vbr or more dose..

Also, make sure the audio is at 48000Hz and the "frames per GOP" is set to 15 (PAL) or 18 (NTSC) depending on where you live.
Hope That Helps!!!:P
