  1. I have a Samsung P421 dvd player, that was advertised on the box, and
on web site reviews to play SVCD. User reviews have said they have
    played SVCD as well.

In the manual it states that this player cannot play SVCD and when I
do put in a SVCD disk it indeed comes up with "this player cannot play
this disc." I tried a few more but the same result.

Does anyone have any insight on what this may be. Is there anything
special about copying svcd discs. Is there a hack or workaround.

Samsung claims that it will not play burnt svcd only store bought.
This doesnt make sense to me and is contrary to what many of your are
    playing.

    Thanks

  2. Please refrain from posting the same question in multiple forums in the future. Once is enough.

As to your problem, CD-R and CD-RW compatibility is a separate ability to VCD and SVCD compatibility.

It sounds like your player is not CD-R/W compatible. As such, you may have to experiment with different brands of CD-R media to find one that works. CD-RW often works better in these cases.

A way of testing CD-R/W compatibility is to burn an audio CD on the same media type. If it plays flawlessly on the player, it indicates that the drive can read the disc well.

As for your manual explicitly stating it to be NOT SVCD compatible and the adverts on the box claiming it does, if this is true, then I suggest you get a refund and buy a better player. If the manual is actually correct, then it is a case of bait advertising and you shouldn't stand for it.

    Regards.
