Hi,
My Philips 5100 bit the dust 3 days ago. Someone earlier gave me a Samsung P-191. Tried it yesterday only for divx playback. Well it kinda sucked. The menus were fugly but the real problem was with subtitles. It would load them fine but just stopped showing them 20 or 40 minutes into playback.
So I searched online for a firmware upgrade. I couldn't google any english sites but there were a lot of spanish and other language sites that all stated the same problem. They downloaded new firmware from samsung UK site but after a successful firmware upgrade, their player wouldn't play any DVD, just gave a No CD error. This was consistent across all the different forum posts I translated through google. I downloaded the firmware anyway.
My question here is: Is it possible that the new firmware region locked their P-191? Would it be possible to fix the "No CD" problem by applying one of the hacks found at https://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks/samsung-dvd-p191/10089 .
I'm hoping someone here has had a similar experience and would be gracious enough to share the result.
Thank you
