  1. For some reason, my DRU500A, which has been working quite well for me writing DVDs with firmware 1.0f, though a little slow on Ritek brand (~45:00 at "2x") suddenly takes 11:00 to burn a CD in Nero, so it's burning somewhere around 4x, even though Nero says that it's burning at 24x, which it has done in the past.

Does anyone know what's going on?

  2. Enable real speed in Nero.

How can I identify real burning speed with Nero ?

45 min is realy not 2x..... My Ritek disc showed 2x but burned 1x...

Accu media, but RITEK Manufacturer ID. Is it OK ?

    especially part
Nero was trying to convince me that this will burn 2x, but because I turn on real burn speed in Nero, it actually burned at 1x. Buffer level was jumping from 5% to 80% and spees from 900kb to 1700kb.

That's why I said "2x" - It displayed 2x, but was too slow... but it was faster than 1x...

In any case, I'm not sure my CD problem is just a problem with Nero, my Philips 12x writer writes at 12x just fine.

  4. On another note... it seems as if I can't select anything other than "track at once" now...

I know... It was just comment . We are like two deafs

Faster then 1x ??? It depends... what was size of final disk ? (data ?) Actually what is time for 1x (4.37GB) ??? 60 min I think....

Just enable you Nero to show real speed and watch...

  7. I get the sense we're talking at cross purposes here... my DVDs are fine, my CD-Rs are writing far too slowly with the DRU500A, CD-Rs that are not having any problems with my Philips.

I'd like to try your suggestion for "real speed" but I have to admit I have no idea what you mean by it.

  8. When you install Nero and you are burning it will show burning speed (for example 2x for DVD or 24x for CD) that will be determin by your media. When you are burning and for some reason it is slower it will still show (in my case 2x or 24x) that speed. By "real speed" I mean real, current burning speed at this moment. That value will change based on conditions during burning. I had 1x DVD media that Nero showed as 2x. When I burned it speed (the one that Nero shows) was going up and down from 900 kb to 1700 kb per somethink.

All this should not solve you problem with burning speed (DVD or CD). It will only enable for you to see what is real burining speed during process.

    Do you understand now ?

Sorry if I was not clear about this before.

  9. I have measured that the drive is burning at 4x (600KB/s) via Nero, I need to know why. I understand that burning speed may vary, but this is usually on a scale from perhaps 16x-20x on this drive, certainly not a drop to 4x.

Some more information: the drive previously worked just fine under the generic-mmc driver in VCDEasy, and now it won't at all. There is definately something wrong either with the drive or with the driver software, not Nero or anything else.
