A lot of people have reported problems with the update so make sure you check out the instructions first.
Update #1: It looks like the firmware update require two files. Download sendcom.vxd http://sony.storagesupport.com/dvdrw/downloads/Firmware1e/SENDCOM.vxd and sendcom.dll http://sony.storagesupport.com/dvdrw/downloads/Firmware1e/Sendcom.dll and put them in the same directory as the update.
Update #2: Sony America has yanked the updates from their website. This probably due to the missing files. Oddly enough, firmware 1.0f has popped up on Sony Japan's website http://www.sony.jp/products/Consumer/Peripheral/CRX/Support/common/download_fw500a10f.html.
You can download the 1.0f firmware directly here http://www.sony.jp/products/Consumer/Peripheral/CRX/Support/common/fw500a10f.exe . There is no word yet on what the difference is between 1.0e and 1.0f. -
1.0e was missing the sendcom.dll,1.0f includes it.

So if I was able to install 1.0e, then i don't really need 1.0f?
I was able to download all the files from sony before they caught their mistake. -

How can a downloaded file speed up harware? I have the DRU500A. Should I get the update or wait?
-
firmware: 1. Software that is embedded in a hardware device that allows reading and executing the software, but does not allow modification, e.g., writing or deleting data by an end user
They updated software that manages burner. So now it can burn in 4x speed. -
Should I get it? I heard there were some problems. When is Sony going re-release it?
-
If you have Sony burner and it burnes fine.... (and this is just my opinion) maybe not. But I would suggest it.... at least 1.0d if not 1.0f. (1.0e was never realy "out" if I don't consider couple of hours on English web)
-
Yes... just do some search here and you should be able find link directly to the page with it (it is kind of hard to navigate in Sony.com)
-
I know my question has probably already been answered but I'm getting confused.
Is there an update for the DRU 500A? And will it increase the speed?
And where can I find it, I searched this site but found nothing.
It seems everyone is contradicting themselves with the speed, some say the update worked and others said no, which is it? -
Hmm... I tried "Sony 1.0f", "1.0f" and no results...
