  1. I am about to make my first DVD player purchase, and 1 of my interests is being able to view my Digital Camera photos using the DVD player.

I am confused however. Does the DVD player have to support Kodak/JPG as some in the list show. i.e. I am looking at the Philips 793 as it says KOdak/JPG is okay, or will any model be able to display these photos, i.e. Sony DVP-NC655P. The sony says no to Kodak/JPG but I have also read that it will display JPG picture no problem.

Is the Kodak/JPG designation different than just viewing any JPG files ??

    Thanks in advance.

I don't know what format you would have to burn the photos to disk with to make them play directly on the players you are talking about. I do know that you can make a photo VCD using several different software packages (even Nero) which should allow you to view your photos on any player that will play standard VCDs. So as far as I know, any player that plays VCDs (check compatibility in manufacturer's literature or DVD Players list at left) will allow you to view photos on your TV.

  3. I use Sonic Foundry Video Factory for both my Camcorder & still digital photos, then write to DVD. VF can produce mpg which can be writen to dvd with and dvd authoring software. It's nice the way you can add music, pan/zoom/crop pictures.

  4. I agreed with Morloc approach. Standard VCD is very common. It is better than any Kodak, Konica, or Fuji specifics picture CD format.

You will apperciated the ability to send the VCD to any family and friends and know they don't need to have a specific model/make of DVD player.

  5. Some DVD players (usually those that also play MP3s) can display Jpeg images that are burned directly to a CD in Data format (folders/directories with files having a .JPG extension on them).

    Hi, G-man,
My DVD player does play MP3s and I do have a data CD with JPEGs both in the root directory and in folders, so I popped it in the player. I got a disc error. I suggest that making the Photo VCD is the way to go to maximize the odds that it will play on almost any machine.
