  1. Hope someone can help? I use smartripper, DVD2AVI, TMPGENC and Nero to copy my movies. When I play the VCD in my Pioneer standalone player there is some picture distortion to the outline of some figures or when there are alot of bright colours in the screen.

When I play the same VCD on my PC through media player without enlarging the picture it plays perfect with a very sharp picture . Is there something I should be doing differently with the ripping programs to improve the way the movie will look on the TV screen. I encode on slow as it is but cannot get picture better.

    Any help would be appreciated.

errr...how does it look on the PC when you do enlarge media player to full screen? i'm afraid standard VCD 2.0 settings won't get you very much. unless you make an xVCD, you're basically stuck. a couple of things i can think of is these:

    1) motion search accuracy to high quality (slow)....

    2) try and use forced film and encode your VCD as 23.976 fps + 3:2 pulldown (provided dvd2avi indicates the source video is 90+% FILM)
