  1. I purchased a Sony DRU-500A drive about 3 weeks ago. It has been great. I recently updated to firmware 1.0f which was supposed to increase the drives speed to 2x or 4x.

I have been using recordnow4.5, DVDdecriptor, and Gearpro(trial version). I have a trial version of nero, too.

I have not noticed any change in burn speed (it is still 1x). Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

  2. well in order to burn ar 4x you need to buy 4x media. you are prob using 1x media and thats why you haven't seen a change...

  3. I had Sony 500A also and update 1.0f and I used the cheaper ACCU disc and I can burn at 2x speed.
I used DVDdecriptor only (Set ISO read to read my DVD, then ISO write to write to blank DVD) of course my movie is less than 4.3GB.

I think Sony 500A is great.

  4. Just be aware. My Accu media (bought as 1x) showed in Nero that it is 2x, but real burning speed was jumping and final time corresponded to 1x burn speed. Please post result with real burning total time and amount of data that you burned.

  5. Tried burning with DVD Decryptor, still 1x. Nero also 1x. Am using cheap Pinco DVD-R and Optodisk-RW disks. They work fine, but won't record at 2x.

Dumb question, do I somehow have to change settings on the DRU-500A or do I need 2x DVDs to get the drive to write at double speed?
