  1. My computer should be coming next week everything is in place except for the video editing software. I have been hearing alot about Ulead
Workshop and Vegas Video but there are 2 important features I am looking for.
    1. Non linear editing.
    2. Rerendering only what is edited not the whole video. Rerendering the whole video unnecessarily wastes hours of time.

Is there anyone using video editing software which includes both of these features and is satisfied with it? I have been thinking about ADS Pyro Platinum which includes a full version of Premier 6.5 and Ulead Workshop SE for $231 shipping included but I am not sure if Premier allows you to rerender only the edited part.

What type of video will you be editing? DV, mpeg, some other .AVI? Rendering back to tape, or converting for (s)VCD/DVD? If you are not sure what type of video, what will you be using to capture the video with?
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?

  3. I have a HS2 so I am transfering home videos through a RAM disk to my computer where I then can edit out unwanted scenes and reorganize, such as taking a scene from the middle and moving it elsewhere.

well all software video editors are Non linear .. Tape editing is linear.

as for re-encoding you are out of luck ... your source is mpeg2 and while Vegas 4 will not re-render DV if it is not required - mpeg2 is always re-rendered in ulead and vegas ..maybe the dvd recorder you are using has firewire output ? - then vegas 4 would be what you want ..

forget premiere for editing mpeg2 ...

editing mpeg2 is really cut and insert editing anyway - anything else requires re-encoding no mater what .. and not the most friendly source to edit unless it was all I frame ..
