I currently use LameXP, but hate the "conversion complete sound" when the encoding is done. I could over look this if the program had the ability to convert everything in the folder and sub folders and maintain the file structure at the output location. A great program that does this is Acoustica MP3 To Wave Converter PLUS, but it only utilizes Lame 3.96 from 2004 and does not have dual threading capability for use with dual or quad core CPUs.

These are the features I'm looking for. Does anyone know of a program that has these features? Thanks!

    1. Lame 3.98.1

    2. Right click conversion (like LameXP and Acoustica)

    3. Dual or Quad threading capability

    4. Maintain the file structure at the output location

Surely you can change or turn that off.

It probably has a "Lame_enc.dll" file in its program folders.
Try replacing its version with the new one.

Otherwise, see if CDEx meets your needs. Takes a little work to set up the defaults but when you have it's very efficient.

Unbelievably, you cannot. I challenge anyone to find a way to turn off that sound at the end of the conversion. It's the same one from DVD Decrypter, only LOUDER! LameXP is free and can be downloaded here: http://mulder.dummwiedeutsch.de/home/?page=projects#lamexp

You may be correct about not being able to turn off the sound, but have you looked in the Windows 'Control Panel>Sound>Sounds' and see if you can find the 'sound' and replace it with silence or something else? If it's used with two programs, it's probably listed there, but you might have to try a few different ones to find it. Temporarily selecting 'No Sounds' for the 'Sound Scheme' , then running your program should be a way to see if it's there. If you don't hear it after that, then it's probably listed there. Then you just have to find it in the list and modify it.

Another sound that I find really irritating is the one in ImgBurn when it completes a burn, but at least you can turn it off. I also set all my 'Windows sounds' to a low level, especially since I feed my audio to my surround sound amp and it's usually turned up.

    Had a look at LameXP.
Seems to roll everything up in one big EXE file. So no separate encoder DLL or audio settings.

    According to its Changelog:

    Changes between v3.12 and v3.13:
    * Updated LAME encoder to v3.98.2 (2009-09-26), compiled with ICL 11.1.046
So that is up to date.

I DL'd the program and the sound scheme is very irritating. I wasn't able to kill the audios as they weren't listed in 'Sounds'. But in Vista, all I had to do is open the 'Volume Mixer' and select the 'Lame' column when the program was running and mute the audio and no more sound from it. Don't know if that's possible in XP, though. It still has the Windows completed ding, but that's not obnoxious.

  7. I'm using the 2009.08.23 build and you right click the top left corner => advanced options => disable all lame XP sounds

Maybe something got broken in later builds?

If must have a LameXP like tool/app, try LamedropXP (drag n drop).. No 'sounds after conversion', that I've heard anyway!..

    If you want a, right-click >audio file> conversion to>, try dBpowerAmp..
There's also foobar2k, import audio file and right-click>to convert..

    My God!

Who on earth puts options where you "right click on the title bar"?

I reinstalled it (having already deleted it after the last try) and saw a popup to that effect, but if you miss it, you will never find them.

There is a "Settings" menu item, you'd think "advanced options" would be linked from there.

    Confusing non-standard GUI design.

The same guy made Avidemux, which is a brilliant program, though also somewhat unconventional.

OMG! AlanHK you are correct! The guy who designed LameXP is talented, but also a complete MORON for putting the advanced options in the title bar. It's totally hidden. poisondeathray, how did you figure that out? I know a lot of people who use LameXP and no one knows about the hidden settings in the title bar.

So all I need to do now is find a program that does everything LameXP does, but also converts files by right clicking ON THE FOLDER containing the files and having everything in the folder and all sub folders converted as well. Acoustica Wave to MP3 Converter does this, and it outputs the file structure to a chosen location, and leaves the original folders and files unchanged.

Like you, I hated that annoying sound, but I knew about the "hidden context menu" because early on in the development I reported some bugs to the author and he had me fiddle with some settings.

As for the folder conversion, if you enable the shell integration in the context menu, and checkmark save output files to same directory in the output folder tab, I think lamexp has that functionality (but I'm not sure about subfolders)

Feel free to report feedback too about the hidden menu stuff to the author or any other stuff; it helps to improve the software

poisondeathray, do you agree that hiding those options is very strange? Why would the author do that? He should just put and "extended options" button there. I'll email him.

    Thanks again for everyone's help.

Bitrate Viewer requires a left click at the top left corner.

A pretty strong and uncalled for response. I have learned much by reading LoRd_MuldeR's posts. If you feel that strongly ask him for a refund.

OK, why hide the advanced options from the user then MysticE? There can not be any justifications for this.
