  1. Hi,

Which is the better encoder, I mean is it worth using a bitrate of 224 for the audio when the AVI may have a bitrate of 96 to 128 MP3. So my question is what bitrate would I need with MP2 to get the same results as an MP3 with say 128Kbs. I know I will lose a little as it gets compressed again, so wouldn`t it make sense to make your AVI`s with MP2 audio so when you make a VCD later you shouldn`t lose so much when converting.

it all depends on who you are trying to impress. most people llisten to fm radio and love it which is 96kb. Mp3 has revolutionised the music industry at 128 kb. 224kb played through a cheap reciever and cheap speakers still sounds cheap.; most people cannot tell the difference in any of them.

MP3 encoding is more efficient than MP2, so you'll probably need your MP2 to be at least 160k or 192k to get the same quality as 128k MP3 audio. You're usually just as well off doing your audio at 224k, you don't save much space by reducing your audio bitrate anyway.
