  2. There are a few ways to rip to SVCD and everyone has their favourite. If your new to it then I suggest using DVD2SVCD. You can get the software from:

    http://dvd2svcd.doom9.net/

Download build 1 bundle and install. Then download build 1 update and install that over the top. It's very quick and easy. All the programs you need are included in the bundle except for the encoder. You'll need TMPG plus or Cinema Craft Encoder 2.50 for MPEG 2 encoding. Both of these programs cost money unless you happen to know someone....(Kazaa).

Then you need the DVD2SVCD guide at:

    http://www.doom9.org/mpg/dvd2svcd.htm

Any questions about this program you should be able to find them at doom 9's site. If you get stuck, give me a shout.

For you next step use DVD2AVI then use TPMGEnc for the encoding.
I haven't used Smartripper, instead DVD Decrypter.

Here is a link for just what you need.

    http://www.afterdawn.com/articles/archive/dvd2svcd_with_tmpgenc.cfm

I just go straight from DVD2AVI to TMPGEnc and skip the bits in between.
    Good luck!

Funny, I thought that this was the long winded process compared to DVD2SVCD. But I still like it.
I can't get Smart Ripper or DVD2SVCD to work so I guess I'm stuck with this process.

Smart Ripper says "no ASPI Layer detected" ?, and,
DVD2SVCD has the CDRDAO stuff all greyed out ?

    I don't know!

I wish I could add chapters with my DVD Decrypt,D2A,TMPG,Nero process.

  6. For the Smartriper part on the ASPI t aint important. Firs insert the DVD and play it using ur DVD software such as PowerDVD. Then rip it using smartripper. Tat way, all the files can be unlocked. Oh, u mean u can add navigation to the svcd??? This is getting exciting

What happens when you try to run DVD2SVCD? DVD2SVCD does not have CDRDAO in it. Are you not thinking of VCD Easy which does?

VCD easy can author a SVCD mpg file with chapters and produce a CD image ready to burn with CDRDAO as part of the program or with NERO(just use FILE, Burn Image).

By the way, DVD2SVCD does all this for you including title pictures, end of CD pix and chapters.

Mind you, I sometimes use SmartRipper to DVD2AVI to TMPG to VCDEasy as well. As long as your staying to the SVCD standards this should be a very straight forward process.

Sorry, Guitar George. I'll have another look and sort myself out about whats doing what, or more importantly, not doing.

So does VCDEasy fit in between TMPGE and Nero?

    Thanks for your input. Appreciated

  9. After you have encoded the mpg with TMPEG, you load that mpg file into VCD Easy to author it with chaptors and make an image. It's possible to burn that image with VCD Easy using the CDRDAO tool but I just open NERO and choose FILE, Burn Image. More reliable in my opinion.

    GGS,
I haven't had much of a look at VCDEasy yet, but,
Is there a way to get VCDEasy to create the SVCD chapters in the same/similar places as they appeared on the DVD? perhaps using ChapterXtractor or the like.

I didn't look at VCDeasy much because the CDRDAO bit was greyed out, but since you say I can open the SVCDEasy output files in Nero I will have a play.

  11. CHeck out...

    http://www.vcdhelp.com/sefy/?id=chapters.html

This tells you how to rip the chapters from a DVD. You can then use that data in VCDEasy.

GGS, thanks for your assistance, it as made all the difference.

I had a quick go last night not really knowing what I was doing but it actually worked.
I only used a few minutes of data but I was able to get the DVD to skip thru the 4 chapters that I set up.

I did have trouble with the "previous" buton on the remote.
Sometimes the button would go back a chapter and other times it would stop the SVCD eg. Sometimes when I was in Chap 2 the previous button would turn off the disc.

Under the "Interactivity" tab in VCDEasy, What is the correct choice for the "Previous " button so it goes back to the start of the current chapter or the previous chap if pressed again?

Is there a way to get the DVD players display to show disc info?
When I put my SVCDs in my Philips DVD player, the display only ever shows "VCD", no chapter number, time or anything else.

Yes, it was VCDEasy that said no ASPI detected so the CDRDAO was greyed out, I think thats right.

  13. I think that some standalone players might have issues with the next and previous buttons. It could be that your player is not fully SVCD compatible. Have a look at...

    http://www.vcdhelp.com/sefy/?id=chapters2.html

Make sure your settings are the same, especially on the OPTIONS part, make sure PBC is checked.

NERO installs its own ASPI layer so that's why you can burn with NERO but not with VCDEasy. You could try installing FORCEASPI 1.7 (just search with google) but I would just use NERO to burn.

    Good Luck,

    GGS.

  14. lightweaver, the guide may be VCD as an example, but for you to use it as
a SVCD, just change the settings, where you see VCD, select SVCD instead.

Like in TMPGEnc, instead of loading VCD Template, load SVCD Template
In VCDEasy, select SVCD instead of VCD, that's all the difference you got.

scottb721, Download and install Compel WinASPI v4.60 Build 1021, this will
fix all your ASPI Problems with Smart Ripper and VCDEasy.
