  1. Hi,

While using TMPGenc the CPU usage is nearly 100% (P4 1.8G MHZ, Win2k). Is this normal ? is it bad for the computer ?

    Thanks !

  2. it shouldn't be. my comp is p4 1.7 and it barely takes any cpu usage

  3. yeah, runs at 100% for the duration of encoding

My AMD XP1800 runs at 100% during the encoding

  5. depends on your priority settings...if you set it to low, it's gonna use less CPU, but obviously take longer time to encode...

if it's 100% CPU usage, you prolly set priority to high

Actually, it will be 100% no matter the priority, that just determines if TMPGEnc get's priority over other tasks. Thus if you were working on other things at the same time, TMPGEnc will finish faster if it's set to high priority than if set to normal or idle but still probably not as fast as if you weren't doing anything regardless of the setting.

The CPU is doing the work to encode. So if you want something to be encoded, the CPU will be used. And since you want it NOW the CPU just works as fast as it can, hence the 100% usage.

The only problem with running at 100% CPU usage for a long time is if you overclocked your CPU (and you'd know if you did this) and it overheats. Otherwise any properly designed computer can run at 100% CPU for days.

Actually, if you're not running at 100% CPU while encoding video there's something wrong - you've got another bottleneck in your computer like a slow hard drive or low ram.
