  1. Hi all, I have a file that is slightly too large to burn. I would like to reduce the quality to 98-99%. I thought I'd just pop the file into TMPGEnc and use the SVCD template to do this. Every time I try this I get a "file not supported" message. What am I doing wrong, do I have to convert this to avi first??

  3. It is already an SVCD compatible mpg, just too large to burn. I want to reduce the quality a bit to make it slightly smaller.

  4. How much too big is it? Because you can get away with just trimming some time off the ends using TMPGs merge&cut option in the mpeg tools.

  5. It is sitting at 79:42 right now, I have an older burner which just refuses to burn anything that close to 80 mins, I tried a no-name, a Memorex and a Maxell, got the same message each time "could not write final Disc-at-Once", I can usually burn anything 78 mins or under. This movie pretty well jumps right in, can't see where I could cut out almost 2 minutes that's why I'd like to do the conversion if possible, just can't figure out how.

  6. Does your burner support overburning?

  7. Thanks for the replies. I honestly do not know and I have no documentation, got this from a friend when he upgraded, it's an older HP, maximum 4X burn.

  8. Right... are u ready for this???

When u use TMP to convert the AVI don't use the wizard.. instead use it manualy.. BUT u must load the UNLOCK profile in the extras dir.. This will enable u to lower the bit rate of the converted mpeg and in turn lowering the file size.... I RECOMMEND U DO LITTLE SAMPLES FIRST USING SOURCE RANGE JUST SO U CAN MAKE SURE YOUR SCREEN SIZES AND FILE SIZES ARE CORRECT.. I.E CONVERT 1min OF FILM AND SEE HOW BIG IT IS THEN MULTIPLY IT BY THE AMOUT OF MIN THE FILM IS THEN SEE IF IT WILL FIT ONTO ONE DISK...

Hope it works.. U will have to play with it..#

    Cheers

  11. Hey checked out that site. Cool. Now I am experimenting with CVDs. Only thing is when i played them the picture shows up more to the top of the TV Screen (top half). I was using the CVD1 Template. Any suggestions.

if you only want to reduce the file size a tiny bit, de-mux and re-encode the audio at a lower bitrate, then re-mux with the new audio.

reducing from 224 to 128kbps will reduce the audio's file size by about a third, i think.

"Disk at once" leads me to believe you are using Nero to burn. You could try VCDEasy. It handles the size better and you can easily "try" overburning with it, if needed. If you do decide to try VCDEasy, you may need to install the ForceASPI drivers to get it to work. Both are referenced in the tools section this website.
