  2. This wasn't a dumb question was it? I'm really new to this. I have a bunch
of .mpg's that I want to convert to CD-R OR CD-RW and play on a dvd player. My DVD player is a Audiovox dv-1680, supports svdc and vcd.

  3. no not a stupid question!

.mpg files are the same as .mpeg files
just as .jpg are the same as .jpeg

.mpg are probably the most common cause of good ol DOS and the 8.3 file specification. old habbits die hard

  4. Thanks, xnakX. I,m having a hard time with instructions on this site
for converting some .mpg's to scvd to play on a dvd player. Does
it have to be mpeg2 to convert to svcd?

Only m(e)pg which are SVCD compliant, can be made into SVCD.
Compliant means:mpeg-2 compression, correct framesize/framerate and bitrate (look at at what is:SVCD on the left of this forum).
