  1. AC3's extracted using 0Sex from chapter vobs after 1st one can't be used in DVD Studio Pro. They can't be imported. Any ideas?

1st one is fine as are m2v files but others don't work.

You can fix these .AC3 streams using mAC3dec. This software works in both 9 and X.

  3. mAC3dec decodes the AC3 files to AIFF, PCM or MP3. In either case if your AC-3 file is 5 channel sound it will get reduced to stereo by using mAC3dec. You can fix the AC-3 files by editing them directly with Hexedit. You can get hexedit here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/hexedit/

What you need to do is open up the AC-3 files with Hexedit and search for the first occurence of "0b77" and delete everything before it (don't delete the 0b77) and resave the file.

Your AC-3 will then import into DVDSP.

mAC3dec will also decode your AC3 streams to five separate mono channels which can be reassembled in A.Pack that comes with DVD Studio Pro (which was not my suggestion from the previous post, but is another functionality of mAC3 that MacNewbie failed to list).

mAC3dec will FIX your AC3 streams if you select Fix from the toolbar menu. Explore the functionality of this program -- its great!

Your AC3 files won't work in DVDSP right now because the ripper clipped the AC3 streams in the middle of a frame, and DVDSP will only take AC3 files that begin with a complete frame.

  5. Trying the 'Fix' suggestion now will let youknow what happens.

By the way is there any way to fix m1v's that won't import in the same way? The ones I have done from some movies are fine, others refuse to import? (An example is John Q)

  6. Fix suggestion works to fix files so that they will import, however sound is now out of sync!

  7. I doubt using the Hexedit method caused the sync problem. I've used it many times without problem. When you say the sound is out of sync, is this while using the DVD Preview option in DVDSP? If so, build the DVD anyways, but don't burn it. Then open up the VIDEO_TS folder with VLC (VideoLan Client) and see if the sound is still out of sync. I've heard of people saying the sounds is out of sync when previewing, but plays fine after creating the DVD. If it is still out of sync, try the fix option in mAC3dec, but backup the AC3 file first. Everytime I've ever used that option, mAC3dec corrupted the AC-3 file.

Ripping by chapter in 0Sex will cause your audio to go out of sync even if you didn't have to fix the frames in mAC3dec. There is a fundamental flaw in 0Sex that causes the AC3 track(s) to loose sync with the video. My guess is because it "corrupts" the AC3 by splitting it in the middle of a frame. This is also my theory as to why people consistently complain about out-of-sync encodes in ffmpegX, because they are ripping out chapters to test ffmpegX.
