I have a friend who wants to get into video editing with his JVC GR-AXM 700U VideoMovie video cam. I already know i'm going to build around the cpu which is going to be a P4. I cant seem to figure out though what software and hardware to use for video editing. any ideas? he is a begginner in this so nothing to hard to understand but yet nothing too limited in options for the software. the hardware side, i know he wants to use a dvd burner to make dvds. what else do i need besides the dvd burner? thanks for any help

for a software solution - you would want to consider adobe premiere 6.5 (which comes with a authoring program for dvd)

or vegas video plus a seperate dvd authoring program (dvd workshop seems highly regarded here). (i like vegas video)

ulead has some all in one type software also ..

if you want a hardware solution consider the matrox rtx10

which comes with everything you need and isnt to expensive ...

yes -- you will need a transcoder or a capture card .. i would suggest to go the DV route and get a AVDC-100 and a firewire card ..
