Best transcoding method?

Well, I finally ran into a video that when stripped with ifoedit is still 4.71gb, Sum of Alll Fears.

What method of transcoding do you suggest for this one? I have used TMPGEnc and the m2v file that it created was not able to be verified by DVDMaestro for some reason.

Was wondering also if it could be stripped down further in ifoedit? Is that possible to get it down from 4.71gb's?

It was ripped with the 6ch surround, I don't think that 2ch's size would equal 2gbs?

Does the movie have a 2-channel 192 audio stream? If it does you could strip it to include only the 2-channel stream. That sometimes works in reducing the file size. The main audio stream is normally at 448B/R.the 2-channel stream is normally 192B/R. But the 2-channel stream is often just the director's commnts. Rempeg will trancode the file and intgrates well with Ifoedit.

I just don't like the 6-10 re-encode time with rempeg, that's why I choose not to use it.

Any comments on CCE? That is what i might try to use yet, I have to try to find a guide for it though, thanks.

You could always rip onto 2 disks - Ifoedit does that ok

Don't use rempeg! that quality is not dvd-quality! Use CCE instead it's fast and gives you 99,999 % of the original quality

The only problem is, CCE does not have an easy method to keep the same GOP structure as the original movie. In theory, at least TMPGEnc can by using Force Picture Type Settings, but so far I haven't had any luck getting a working copy of movies transcoded with TMPGEnc and remuxed with IfoEdit.

My best guess is that TMPGEnc ignores the Force Picture Type Settings, but who knows...

The only EASY way to get a copy is to use ReMPEG2 + IfoEdit and accept the inferior ReMPEG2 result... But first you gotta accept that the best quality settings in ReMPEG2 will keep your computer busy for like 40 hours depending on the input material... Go find the hibernate key on your PC if you have the computer in the bed room

I successfully made a copy of Sum of all Fears, but when i played it on my stand alone dvd player, i get a choppy video. I reencoded the video with TMPEGnc and authored with Ifoedit. what can i do to get rid of the choppy video playback?
