  1. I have run into some problem with an XVID video file, I cannot encode with TMPGENC because TMPGENC does not work with AC3 audio. Now I can encode the video stream but the audio is unsupported. How would I convert the audio to lets say a wav file? I have searched everywhere for a solution, you name it and I've been there. Someone suggested using Gordian Knot and Virtual Dub but I still am lost as to how to convert this audio file. Maybe there is a way to demux the streams and then convert the audio from the AC3 that it is in, then remux the two streams,? however I am totally lost as how to do this. If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate them.

    Thanx and lost

    So what happened when you followed the XviD AVI -> Mpeg1/2 (VCD/SVCD) with TMPGEnc - easy way guide in the User Guides section?

  3. the audio file is unsupported or does not load in tmpgenc, the video still encodes fine, just minus the audio. Maybe it has something to do with the AC3 sound?

    I realise that, but have you tried the various things suggested in the guide, and in the responses to it? Have you tried altering the VFAPI priorities? Can you load the XviD into Virtualdub? We need to know exactly what you have already tried before we can give some useful advice!

    Yes, your problems are due to the AC3 sound. If TMPG will not accept it, then you have to extract the AC3 and convert it first to a wav (or mp2).

    TMPGEnc can't encode AC3 audio directly. You need to use a program such as VirtualDub to demux the audio from the AVI file. Then use another program such as HeadAC3he or BeSweetGUI to convert the AC3 file to wave format. You can then use the resulting wave file for the audio source in TMPGEnc. You can find all these in the tools section of the forum.

    Well, it seems some people can, judging by the guide and subsequent discussion, (which incidentally I noticed you contributed to).

    Getting AC3 to load into TMPG, frameserving from Virtualdub to TMPG, and extracting the AC3 as you just outlined, are all mentioned in the guide and the responses to the guide. My purpose here is to try and get bygeorgeivegotit to actually read through the guide, rather than repeating information which is actually quite easy to find! It seems to me that he hasn't read it.

    @banjazzer,
    What can I say? Oops! Frameserving might be a little over this guy's head being newbie and all, but you right. Some people just don't want to take the time and read, but don't be to hard on the guy. We were all new to this once.

    I agree. It doesn't always work for me, either. The obvious thing to do is first to play with the VFAPI settings as in the guide (doesn't work for me), and then if that doesn't work, use Virtualdub as you explained how to in one of your replies to the guide. 8)

  9. Hi, guys

    Since you're talking about my guide, i wanted to add something to this discussion. It appears to me that a lot of people try the guide, then fail because of AC3 for sound and think that it is useless. This guide only describes how to tweak TMPGEnc to accept XviD AVI files, it does not describe how to deal with AC3 sound. So, if you have an XviD AVI with sound other than AC3, it should work. If it is with AC3, then the audio needs to be dealt with as described in this guide before using mine. Banjazzer, i would assume you thought some people actually succeeded getting TMPGEnc accept AC3 because most latest XviDs come with AC3. I think in those cases XviDs had something other than AC3 for sound. I have stated in one of my replies that using AC3 extraction and convertion guide is the way to go, but it seems not many people actually read through the thread. Maybe i should ammend the guide to emphasise this point...

    Regards.
