  1. I normally download SMR movie rips, and re-encode them to VCD so i can burn them onto a disc. This has worked just fine for the past... Christ, i don't even know how long. For a long time, i've been using TMPG Plus v2.56. I've never had a single, solitary problem with it until about a month ago. Every encode has been flawless, and i've burned hundreds of VCDs.
Normally, i'll use the "batch encode" feature and encode several files overnight while i sleep, or during the day while i'm at work. But now when i let the program run, i'll come back in a couple of hours and check on it, and find that it has shut itself down - no error message, no warning, no ANYTHING. It's just stopped running. I open the program and check the batch list, and it says "Aborted by user."
If i check my destination directory, usually the first file has been encoded... BUT, the last 3-5 seconds are missing. If i have a video that is 40:25 in length, the encoded clip will only be 40:22 or something close to that. What the hell?
So then i started just trying to encode one file at a time, but i've been getting the same results as of late. I've even tried downloading the newest version of TMPG, but the results are the same. Thus far, i haven't had a problem with videos downloaded from other places (TMD, MTG, etc), but only with the SMR clips.
Anyone have any suggestions? It's driving me insane!

  2. Gnomes are hitting the cancel key.

Actually, is it possible that SMR intentionally puts errors in the final seconds to prevent re-encoding ? A lot of release groups don't like having their stuff tampered with. How about chopping off the last 10 seconds and seeing if they re-encode ?

  3. That's not a bad idea... although i can't say i would be happy about cutting off 10 seconds of my movie right in the middle... especially if there's dialogue. But i'll give it a whirl.

  4. try frameserving from virtualdub without any filters or anything, except maybe null transform I use to have to do that for a few downloaded movies that I would encode to vcd to watch on the cd-i machine at work
I remember at least 3 movies I had to encode this way-just runing them through TMPEG didnt work for them
