Reencoding DVD-9 to fit on one DVD-R

People here say they are having success with this method, and the video still loox amazing. If I choose this option, and reencode the video to a lower bitrate, will it still play on standalone players... I'm a total newb at burning DVDs, just purchased my Cendyne DVD-RW and I have no success at all at splitting DVDs... DVD decrypted + IfoEdit is gibberish to me. So will it still play on standalone players, if so, how do I reencode and burn it... a good list of directions + tools needed would really be appreciated, every1 share their methods please.
