Hello fellas. You've helped me a lot in the past , and i hope somebody can help me this time also.
This is probably terribly simple question to ask. I have a camcoder, that records mpeg-2 files on to built-in hard drive.
When I connect it to a computer - I see a list of .MOD files. Here is the description of the file in mediainfo.exe:

    Code:
    Complete name : N:\1\MOV028.MOD
    Format : MPEG-2 Program
    Format/Family : MPEG-2
    File size : 454 MiB
    PlayTime : 8mn 17s
    Bit rate : 7655 Kbps

    Video #0
    Codec : MPEG-2 Video
    Codec profile : Main@Main
    Codec settings/Matri : Custom
    PlayTime : 8mn 17s
    Bit rate : 8400 Kbps
    Bit rate mode : CBR
    Width : 720 pixels
    Height : 576 pixels
    Aspect ratio : 4/3
    Frame rate : 25.000 fps
    Standard : PAL
    Chroma : 4:2:0
    Interlacement : Top Field First
    Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 0.810

    Audio #0
    Codec : AC3
    PlayTime : 8mn 17s
    Bit rate : 384 Kbps
    Bit rate mode : CBR
    Channel(s) : 2 channels
    Sampling rate : 48 KHz
    Video0 delay : -80ms
    ChannelPositions : L R
I also know that these files are compatible to dvd, because there is a "create dvd" button on the camera.
When i put these files in Nero REcode, it recognizes them as video and lets me create Dvd-video out of them, but it is re-encoding them , which takes us huge amount of time, and deminishes the quality of the files.
How can I create standard Dvd video out of these files without reencoding them?

Try other authoring tools like Tmpgenc Authoring Works should not reconvert or some free dvd authors like DVDStyler, GuiForDVDAuthor or the simple DVD FLick(be sure to enable so it does not reconvert in the settings).

Many authoring tools (like GfD) will want you to demux the video to a separate video and audio (AC3) file.
(This is not reencoding, just rearrangnig the same data, so no quality loss and quite fast.)
Then they will recombine them in the correct way to make a DVD.

    Find demuxers here: https://www.videohelp.com/tools?toolsearch=demux
    BatchDemux is simple and free.

Baldrick, Thanks for your help. I'm downloading Dvd Flick right now. Will see how it goes. Will report back

AlanHK, Videos are already using Mpeg-2 program stream, they only have .mod and not .vob extension. I work with virtual dub and mkv tools. They can demux almost any video, but need to know which container to demux to? Or you mean raw video and audio files?

  5. authoring programs usually need to work with separate streams. as in .mpv and .ac3 and will demux the .mpg into them for you. if the program doesn't like the .mod extension change it to .mpg and it should work.

What minidv2dvd said. Just change the extension to .mpg if your authoring program doesn't recognize the .mod extension. Demux if needed.

One of Nero's worst habits is wanting to unnecessarily re-encode. If you can stop the re-encoding, you might get Nero to work for you correctly. If not, just use a proper authoring program, then burn with ImgBurn to a DVD disc.

Separate video and audio files. Eg. video as .m2v, audio as .ac3.
Some authoring apps will work with combined audio-video, but separate ones are more compatible.
