  1. Not sure if this was ever answered before, but I'll ask anyway. Does anyone know how I would go about converting a PAL Real Media .rm file to something useable in NTSC? I'd eventually like to burn it to a DVD-R, but EO chokes on PAL, and Tinra doesn't seem to know any better either. I'd appreciate the help, thanks!!!

I don't mean to appear thick (some say its a natural talent but what is a PAL Realmedia file? I've converted dozens of RM clips and can't say I've ever heard of such a thing.

  3. I've got a .rm file taped in Australia, and while it plays fine in Real Player, it won't let me convert it to an mpeg2, no matter what I try (even Tmpgenc chokes on it). My guess is it must have something to do with PAL, but that's only a guess. I hate rm, but it's the only format I can find for this item. Hope the info helps.

Right, I tried a few clips and found direct MPEG2 conversion using EOVideo was not a happening thing. However, converting first to MPEG1 or AVI using EO worked perfectly from there you can just use TMPEGEnc as normal. The loss of quality is minimal because you can either crank the bitrate up or use a lossless codec presuming you can spare the diskspace, I used MPEG1 at 480x576/25fps.

The big "gotcha" with converting this way is the fact that it doesn't work with RealONE, you have to have Realplayer 7 or 8 installed otherwise it wont go (neither will TINRA by the way)

  5. Hmm - now all I would have to do is find a copy of Real Player 7 or 8. Ok, far as I can tell, that's the difference. I'll give it a try - thanks much for the help!
