  1. Could someone tell me how I can check to see what version of firmware I have. It must be 1.0c, but I can't find where it actually says that. I just want to know where I can go because I have been reading all of the problems/freezing people have had updating this, and I want to know where to go to see if 1.0d is installed afterwards.

  3. when you say the flash program, do you mean the update? Is there anyway to check the version I am running now, without updating the firmware? I could of swore I saw 1.0c somewhere, I just don't remember where.

  4. When my computer boots up, it shows a screen w/ some information about each of the IDE devices. After I updated my DRU500, it shows as rev D. I assume you should be able to find something similar...

  7. thanks for the replies. I did see I have 1.0d when I ran the updater again. My Bios when booting shows the drive, but doesn't specify rev. d. I will see if Nero recognizes it as rev.d, but I think it shows the drive properties as Sony Dru500a, and nothing more. I appreciate all the help, I'm just glad the flash worked after my system locked up.

  8. Have a look at this image from Nero. Its under the menu where you choose you recorder.

You will notice next to the Firmware Revision it says: 1.0c

As I said Nero and all good burning software will tell you the current firmware of your drive....

  9. Hi there,
Have you guys tried cheap DVD-/+R on your Sony DRU-500A?? The price for DVD-R (made in Taiwan) is about US$1.28 per disc in Hong Kong, the brand is "Sky". I have gone through this forum about media, some one reported that this Sony drive doesn't like cheap media, is it true?

Yet another way (at least in XP)...

Open Explorer (thats Windows Explorer NOT Internet Explorer - duh!), right click on the DVD500A, and select "Properties", then choose the "Settings" tab.

It will give you some info there.

  12. thank you all for the info. I was more concerned with other way of locating the firmware version because of the lock-up. I wanted to be sure it really was being recognized as 1.0d, and that the install was completely successful. It appears that it has been. Falcon, you said all good burning software should show the firmware, and with your picture, you obviously were right. Thanks for showing that to me. That will be good to know for the future.

  13. After having some trouble with my DRU500a making more coasters than IKEA, I applied the firmware update (d), and it caused XP to lock up for about 30 seconds and then sponteanously reboot itself (I dont get the message-box saying "Windows will now restart.." it just dumps me out of everything and reboots).

I'm a bit concerned that the process didnt do according to plan and I'd like to re-flash my writer with the original firmware, I'd be really grateful if someone could point me in the right direction -- I've been unable to find it anywhere!

    Thanks,

    - Martin.
