I've been going at video editing for over a month and keep on discovering better ways to convert vhs to dvd. So far I have an avertv pvr card captures are ok, but 90% of the time the mpegs are incompatible with TMPGenc which by the way is very aggervating. I also keep on having buzzing sound at high tones, but i believe this is because I'm using a splitter off of a mono rca connection on my vcr's audio out, so I might just get a vcr with stereo out to correct this problem since direct mono comes in crystal clear. So far it looks like I might be going back to the original video capturing I did, but with a different Dazzle since it worked best for me. I'm going to get the Dazzle DVD creation station 200 (I use to have a fusion, but because of the bandwidth on USB 1.1 there was always audio sync problems) Now that I have USB 2.0 the faster speed will allow me to capture at or near dvd quality. I know from personal frustration dazzle's software makes more decarative coasters than anything else, lol, but when you combine a USB 2.0 dazzle with Sonic MyDVD things come out great since the software can capture to directly to dvd/vcd compliant formats. By the way yes I have messed around with the settings on my avertv pvr and never had luck in case if anyone should ask.
