Can anybody please tell me how do I keep the quality:
Original avi or divix or mpg looks good when watching in orig. size in media player, when switching to full screen or burning to VCD the quality really sucks.

If you're playing the VCD on your standalone DVD player, the quality should be quite good. By going full-screen on computer, you're forcing the resolution higher from the original 352x240.

Computer monitors tend to be very high resolution, so it's a fact of life that low resolution video will look bad when you set it to full screen mode. Lowering your display resolution in Windows to 800x600 or 640x480 might help, though.

640 by 480 is the best to use for vcds played on a computer. Your tv is 704x480 so that is about the best as you can get.
