Finally broke down and bought one at Circuit City today. Wanted a hackable 1500, but can't find any for a decent price. The 1200 (1201, actually on the box?) was $50 w/ tax. Main diffs seem to be:
AD-1200
No Subs or CVD (what is CVD?)
XVCD 4600kbit/s
XSVCD 4500kbit/s
MP3 VBR 320kbit/s
AD-1500
Subs & CVD
XVCD 9000kbit/s
XSVCD 9000kbit/s
MP3 384kbit/s
The 1500 is more popular, has a little better of a rating, and has a reputation for being able to "handle anything you throw at it" format-wise. My real question is: if I can't find a hackable 1500, will this 1200 do?
The "kbit/s" numbers don't mean that much to me. What are their significance? It's not like the 1200 won't play XVCD formats, right?
Thanks.
(Edit: I actually have a 1201... can't figure out from the reviews here whether or not it will actually play VCDs... anyone?)
