  1. Hi all!

I've got a Pentium 3 1000 with about 20 GB of free space on disk, 256 KB RAM and a Fly Video 3000 capture board.

I've properly installed DirectX 8 AND the capture patch.
When I try to capture using VirtualDub, it says that no capture devices are present. Video Studio doesn't work (it hangs) and Premiere states the same message.

I think it's a simple problem, which can be corrected in a snap, but I can't figure out the solution. The board works correctly with its capturing software, but the video is rather choppy and no more than 320X240.

    Please help

    Thanks a lot!

i had this problem with my ATI TV Wonder VE and it was a driver problem.
Laserdiscs are cool, but laserdiscs on DVD-Rs are cooler.

    Once again, for hte record:
    Virtualdub is vaporware.
It does not work with any software or hardware anyone in the real world is likely to use nowadays.
VirtualDub failed to work with your capture card because it uses
Video For Windows, and older driver protocol. All modern Windows
video devices use a different protocol, WMD (I belive that's Windows
    Media Driver).
This means that Virtualdub will not work with your capture card, Virtualdub will not work with your firewire card or any device attached to it (and the single best video capture device, the Capous ADVC-100, attaches to your computer through a firewire card), and VirtualDub will not open AVI files created by real programs in the real world.
For example, VirtualDub will not open AVI files created by Ulead Media Studio Pro or Adobe Premiere or VEGAS Video.
So what is VirtualDub good for?
Well, you can burn it onto a CD-R, go down to the beach, and play frisbee with it. That's what VirtualDub is good for.
In short, VirtualDub is usseless worthless pointless vaporware that doesn't work.
If you find yourself disgusted by this, e-mail VirtualDub's author to get off his ass and fix his vaporware so that it actually works with video software and hardware used by real people in the real world.

  4. Xed, I hope you're soon done saying this in every damn post I see your name in.

Virtualdub is great. LOTS of real people use it, in a real world, on a daily basis, and it works excellent for all of us. Must be you. Virtualdub will not work with firewire cards, cuz it's more of a "fast USB-like" type of port and not a capture card per se. And about your "single best card ever" that connect to a firewire card, well, you'd be probably the only one here with that, as most people seem to use bt8x8, AIW's anbd such. (Sure, there's more than these, but purposedly picking out a capture card that is so higly overkill to create VCD's and such, just to whine about virtualdub...)

I', not getting disgusted by virtualdub, but by your useless vaporware posts. Also, insulting the maker of virtual, who owes you nothing, won't help anything. Hope a moderator that has some balls fixes you good some day.

    nanifra: One post is enough.
xed: If now virtualdub suck(does not support wdm,dv capture) how about recommending users of other capture software to use instead of all the time complain about it. One more post like that and you are banned.

I think that Xed doth protest too much...

    I have been wondering WHY.
Why does Xed feel this need to degrade the poor author of VirtualDub. Ok, I agree that VirtualDub only captures with the old VFW standard, and my new WDM based card does not work with it, but capture is only a small part of what VirtualDub does...

The only explanation I can think of is possibly Xed knows the author of VirtualDub personally. Maybe Xed made sexual advances toward the author and was spurned.

xed, ooer, you a nasty, nasty man
BTW I too have had probs with this prog, but if I pres return 3 times, it hangs for 30 secs then reads my capture card. This has happened ever since I installed a second capture driver. One is for Wintv, the other is for a cheapo digital cam (L'Espion)

Well, I didn't say either it's perfect (not that the problem you're having is cause by v'dub itself either). But people pay 300$ a year for windows, and you think they get bug free and hassle free software?
